Raam Naam Satya Hai...!!!

Hindi:                                                       राम नाम सत्य है |
English Transliteration:                      Raam Naam Satya Hai.
English Translation:                        God Name is the only Truth.

Whats wrong in reciting this chant in our normal life?

Ask this question to someone who is not familiar with Indian culture, he won't have any problem with that.

The reason I asked you to ask this question to someone who is not familiar with our Indian culture is that, our Indian mindset has been made to settle on the belief that "Raam Naam Satya Hai" is only supposed to be said at the time of death only, so we might not be able to get an unbiased decision. It has become a belief that if you hear this chant, then there has been a death nearby and normally no one is allowed to recite it.

Watch this small video "Raam Naam Satya Hai" (6 minute and 22 second) by the group HamaraMovie in which a 11 year old kid is punished for reciting the same chant. It will surely make you have some thought on what you used to believe till now.

Think with an unbiased mind
Is there anything bad in it, a curse or something...???
 or
Is it just our superstition...???

PS: This post has not been made for targeting any religion or anyone's religious believes.

  3. The way of punishment is obviously wrong. There is nothing bad or curse, but some traditions have to be followed in every religion.if u l start categorizing everything superstitious or not, its not the right way according to me...Its just a cultural trend.

    1. GOD never differentiated even for caste, but we created it...and that's what my point is...why a categorization for a chant which doesn't signify (according to its meaning which i understood) any specific relation to death or any such thing...
PS: once again...I'm just curious...no intentions of targeting any specific religion/sect...

    2. Don't u think there are some trends for social regulations? they are built in positive sense.... I feel to some extent these are required, otherwise everybdy will start doing whatever he/she wants....in that case it will b too difficult to manage the moral issues in human being as well as society.
PS: its like whole World is a family(wid different cultures) creati discipline in everybdy via some regulations which is called religion....no specific target...

    3. Thats what...as u said...there are some social rules and regulations and I'm not questioning any of those regulations they are for belief...but what I was seeking is the meaning about "the use of a specific chant". Obviously chants have been decided after some thoughts and considerations...I'm seeking the thought/reason for fixing it there...
PS: rules sometimes are followed according to belief...but chants can have meaning...

    1. And as far as I am concerned ... I got no probs with Raam Naam Satya Hai in our daily lives .... but we mortal people who fear death, out of love for our families and relatives, associate the saying with "Death", even though its the ultimate truth. So its FEAR that brings a twist to the saying "RAAM NAAM SATYA HAI" !!!

    2. maybe its the way what you said...but very weird, I must say...

  6. Well it means that "RAAM NAAM" is eternal truth which can also infered as soul or aatma and the dead has left the "RAAM NAAM" , it is enchanted while "kriya karm" so that the dead body completely leaves the soul/truth or in other words it is has become free from truth.

    2. But if we recite it in normal life, wouldn't that lead to enlightenment at an early stage of life because its afterall our soul only which learns about such things, whether after death or before death, if I'm not wrong?

  7. A very though provoking question.
The idea behind chanting this verse'Ram naam satya hai'(the name of ram is truth) during a funeral is that, the body is now lifeless and have no breath(truth). But, to me this makes no sense. There is no negativism in that chant so why is it so prohibited for regular events? Ram never said not to take his name.
The only valid reason is traditions followed by humans. It has being going on for years and now it is only related to funerals and death and that hollow feeling occurs when this is chanted and thus creates an uneasy atmosphere, when chanted otherwise.
Again, I don't mean to hurt anyone's religious sentiments but, it is similar to this - Jesus Christ was nailed on a cross made by Romans, who actually crucified Jesus, he suffered pain and died on that cross however, that cross is worshiped by many and is regarded holy. The same reason again- traditions invented by humans.
I just wrote something similar on my blog and did receive a little bit of hatred but, we all deserve to display our opinions, right?
